From Fatherless to Fatherhood documentary to debut on ASPiRE on Father’s Day

ATLANTA — “From Fatherless to FatherHood,” a documentary by filmmaker Kobie Brown, will make its national television debut on Magic Johnson’s ASPiRE network on Sunday, June 16, as part of the channel’s Father’s Day programming.

The film sparks discussion about fatherhood in the African American community and highlights the experiences of Black men who raise and support their children.

Network Says Film Is Meant to Spa Conversation

ASPiRE said it selected the documentary because of its focus on family, community, and representation.

“As part of this celebration, we are thrilled to bring filmmaker Kobie Brown’s groundbreaking documentary to audiences as the nation celebrates fatherhood,” the network said in a statement. “We hope that this film’s debut on ASPiRE stimulates and inspires conversation on this important topic.”

The film, produced under The Kobie Chronicles banner, appears across digital platforms and continues to gain attention for its personal storytelling and community‑centered message.

Documentary Explores Fatherhood Through Personal Stories

Directed by Brown, “From Fatherless to FatherHood” examines the impact of father absence and the importance of nurturing father‑child relationships. The film includes reflections from several well‑known voices, including:

• Kirk Franklin, gospel artist
• Dr. Steve Perry, educator and advocate
• Rev. DeForest B. Soaries, pastor and author
• Jeff Robinson, music executive

The documentary blends interviews, personal narratives, and community perspectives to explore how Black fathers build strong family bonds and contribute to healthier neighborhoods.

The film also addresses the social and historical challenges that shape fatherhood in Black communities.
