Brandon Scott has made history. The City Council president has won the election to become the city’s 52nd mayor. He also becomes Baltimore’s youngest mayor elected.
“Baltimore, our city has voted for a new way forward. I stand before you tonight, a son of Baltimore and the next mayor of our great city,” Scott said Tuesday night. “I am proud, energized and humbled by your belief in me and what we can accomplish together.”
The 36-year-old was elected council president after Jack Young became mayor following former Mayor Catherine Pugh’s resignation amid scandal.
“I see this as the opportunity for rebirth. The rebirth is going to come when we all have to work together each and every day and do that tough work to make Baltimore a better place. I am not the savior. We have to work together as a city unified to make Baltimore better. One person cannot fix things. (These) problems have existed longer than I been alive,” Scott told 11 News Tuesday night.
Scott entered the mayoral race in September 2019. He will be sworn in Dec. 20. He was the youngest candidate in the race for mayor, and when he first took office in 2011, he was the youngest person to be elected to the City Council at age 27.
