Tyeisha Colley, a 35-year-old teacher and mother of four, was tragically shot and killed by her nephew on Christmas Day in Georgia.

Her nephew, Devin Sullivan, 21, has been arrested and charged with murder and aggravated assault.

Colley, a beloved teacher at Salem High School, was visiting family in Monroe, Ga. to celebrate Christmas before a planned family Disney trip. As she was pulling out the driveway of her parent’s home with her husband and children, her nephew shot her.

“We lost a great daughter, a great mother. We lost a great friend,” her father, Johnny Atkinson, told news station WSB-TV.

The family said they can not fathom why Sullivan would shoot his aunt and wonder if mental health is at play.

There were no arguments that led up to shooting, and Sullivan was close to his aunt, family said.

She was married to her childhood sweetheart, U.S. Army veteran Jermaul Colley, who was grazed by a bullet, but was not seriously hurt.

GoFundMe

A GoFundMe fundraiser has been set up to benefit the Colley family during this difficult time.

“Guided by her faith, Tyeisha lived a life centered on caring for others. Whether she was nurturing her students, supporting her church community, or being the rock her family relied on, she gave selflessly and loved deeply. Her warm smile and generous spirit brightened the lives of everyone she met,” the fundraiser reads.

Colley leaves behind her husband Jermaul and their four beautiful children.

“This GoFundMe has been created to honor her memory and support her family during this challenging time. Donations will help cover any family needs.”
