Spelman college professor found deceased, teacher still missing after abandoned boat spotted
Authorities say a Spelman professor has been found deceased, but they are still searching for her fiancé, according to reports.
Spelman college professor and fiancé went missing
Jocelyn Wilson was last seen on Feb. 8 small fishing boat on Lake Oconee in Georgia with her fiancé, Gary Jones, reported television stations WAGA-TV and WXIA-TV.
Authorites said they were celebrating Jones’ 50th birthday when they disappeared, according to WAGA-TV.
Investigators said the couple checked into a hotel at Lake Oconee before going to the lake and boaters found the couple’s empty boat on the water about two hours later.
The Georgia Department of Natural Resources was notified about the missing couple at 5:30 p.m. on Feb. 8 and began a search for the couple later that day.
One of the bodies found
Wilson’s body was found in the water the next day, on Feb. 9, reported WAGA-TV. Investigators also found Jones’ shoes, a hotel room key card, his wallet and his driver’s license.
Law enforcement, the Department of Natural Resources and volunteers who know the couple have been out on the water trying to find Jones for over a week.
Authorities with Putnam County told WANF there’s an ‘infinite number’ of possibilities that could have happened.
As of now, authorities said they’re looking into possible foul play, which is standard protocol in these cases.
