Mother and teen daughter fatally shot inside their New Jersey home
Malika Whiting, 40 and her 13-year-old daughter Jairah Biggs, were fatally shot in their home in Trenton on Saturday, April 12.
Authorities in New Jersey are investigating the deaths of a mother and her teen daughter who were killed over the weekend.

New Jersey mother and daughter killed
Officers responded to the home at approx. 10:30pm after receiving a 911 call.
Police found Jairah shot and killed in a third-floor bedroom, while her mother Malika was found dead from a gunshot wound on a staircase leading to the third floor. Authorities have not released any further details.
Their family and the community is trying to come to grips with this unconscionable tragedy as Trenton’s mayor says the city is mourning the ‘senseless’ deaths.
“It is with profound sorrow and heartbreak that we learned of the senseless and devastating loss of Malika Whiting and her 13-year-old daughter, Jairah Biggs. The news of this horrific act of violence has shaken our community The family’s roots are in the community and throughout the City. No mother and daughter should ever be taken from this world in such a tragic and violent way. Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with the family, friends, and loved ones of Malika and Jairah during this unimaginable time. As a city, we mourn alongside you and stand with you in grief and in solidarity.” Mayor W. Reed Gusciora said in a statement.
“This tragedy is a stark reminder of the urgent work that still lies ahead to ensure safety and peace in every neighborhood. Trenton will not rest until justice is served, and we will continue to work every day to build a safer future for all our residents,” Gusciora continued.
Fundraiser
A GoFundMe has been created to help during this difficult time.
According to relatives, Whiting also has a son and two small children.
“My heart is beyond broken to lose the woman that gave me life. I know that life will be different without my other half, but it’s up to me to continue to care for my younger siblings, my 6 year old sister and 11 year old brother. At this time, I’m asking that if you can support me at this time and donate, anything will help my siblings and I,” the fundraiser reads.
Investigation into New Jersey mother and daughter killed
Mayor W. Reed Gusciora said the Trenton Police Department, in collaboration with the Mercer County Homicide Task Force, is investigating the case.
“We urge anyone with information to come forward and assist in the investigation. We must all play a role in ending the cycle of violence that continues to rob us of our loved ones and tear apart our community.”
