The Influence of Race Relations : The George Zimmerman Trial and Justice For Trayvon (Opinion)
The George Zimmerman case and justice for Trayvon Martin has many glued to their televisions.
The George Zimmerman case and justice for Trayvon Martin has many glued to their televisions. It has further influenced the uproar of race relations between the Black community and the “others”; well mostly the white community and the police.
The influence of race relations
I have seen a picture floating around social media which reverses the race of Trayvon Martin and George Zimmerman; showing Trayvon Martin as a white male and George Zimmerman as Black.
The picture further insinuates if this were to be true, then the ongoing case would have been opened and shut.
I have to be honest and hope this doesn’t showcase ignorance of any sort, but I have the least interest in watching The George Zimmerman case.
Do I want to see justice for Trayvon Martin? Absolutely. But to watch the case just causes a pit of sickness to overcome onto me.
It scares me for as I have a 5 year old son who I am raising in this world which holds our life. The world, which we live in, seems to worsen as the days pass. I remember growing up and the worst thing to worry about was a missing child and hope for their safe return or for children to not talk to strangers. These days, the child becomes missing from life. In the most contaminated form which is death by murder.
Are Zimmerman’s actions justified? In my opinion, they definitely are not. I look at the situation in a much broader sense. This was an adult who made the decision to kill a child; his reason being self-defense where it seems that Trayvon only wanted to save his own life. He was armed with his own weapons of the now notoriously known Skittles and a can of Arizona Iced Tea. I’m 100% certain that no harm could have been done with these items.
George Zimmerman deserves the utmost punishment. Many want to see him dead. Do I believe it will happen? No. I believe this trial will be a lesson for the masses. Justice will hopefully be served but in the end there is faith to be had that all wrong will be handled. We all answer to someone in the end. The black community and the world over can have anger towards Zimmerman. In my opinion, the youth are dealing with a tough life. Before any judgment is taken, we have to do a thorough observation of our own community. The urban communities of America are crying for help.
The amount of Black on Black crime between the Black youth as well as adults is horrendous in itself. If we do not show respect to our own community, how can you honestly expect others to? Our community is lost, the time is now to regain and rebuild.
