NJ Deli owner says “White History Month” sign hurt business
A N.J. deli owner said his business has suffered tremendously, financially, after putting a ‘White History Month” sign up.
Jim Boggess says his business was already hurting financially, but now he says it’s hurting more ever since he put up a “White History Month” sign.
In a publicity stunt gone wrong the owner of the struggling deli in Flemington, N.J. said he posted the sign encouraging people to, well, celebrate their white heritage.
Jim Boggess, owner of Jimbo’s Deli, says the sign was supposed to be, “a white thing but people read more into it than that.” The sign said: “Celebrate Your White Heritage in March; White History Month.” His business has deteriorated financially since.
His troubles began when a customer complained about the sign last month, according to Mediaite. Both he and the man who complained got some pretty vicious responses. Boggess insisted, “I love everybody, and everybody should celebrate what they are. I shouldn’t have to feel bad about being white,” the report says.
He ended up taking The White History Month sign down, but this week he set up a GoFundMe page saying he’s been suffering financially. To date it has raised $1,175.
