She was 64.
Suzanne Douglas’ death was announced on Facebook by her cousin Angie Tee.
“Suzzanne Douglas a beautiful and talented actress made her transition today,” Tee wrote. “She warmed our hearts on movie screens and television sets all over the world…The world will miss your talent but your soul will live on forever.”
Douglas died at her Martha’s Vineyard home in Massachusetts, The New York Times reported.
Her husband, Jonathan Cobb, said Douglas died from complications of cancer, although he did not specify what kind, the newspaper reported.
Cobb said Douglas had been sick for more than two years.
Suzzanne Douglas Career
Douglas, a Chicago native, had an admirable list of credits that included films like Tap with Gregory Hines, Whitney, How Stella Got Her Groove Back, School of Rock, and The Inkwell.
On television and series — in addition to her most well known role on The Parent ‘Hood with Robert Townsend — she’d appeared in shows like Bones, The Good Wife, When They See US, and NYPD Blue.
A well-respected Broadway and theater performer, Douglas had credits that included The Threepenny Opera which she performed opposite Sting, The Tap Dance Kid and Wit, according to her biography.
She also lent her talent to the Jersey Shore’s Two River Theater where she performed in the musical In This House.
Suzzanne Douglas earned a Bachelor of Arts degree at Illinois State University and a Master in Music degree at the Manhattan School of Music.
She was a lifetime member of Girl Scouts of America, The National Council of Negro Women, Sigma Alpha Lambda, Jack and Jill of America, Inc.
Additionally, she is was an Honorary Member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. where she served on its National Board.
Douglas is survived by her husband Jonathan Cobb and one daughter.
