In his true comedic fashion, Noah did not hold back on controversial topics such as Will Smith’s 10 year ban from The Oscar’s, the COVID outbreak in Washington D.C, and the most historic, Ketanji Brown Jackson’s Supreme Court confirmation.
Ketanji Brown
Ketanji Brown Jackson made history but it certainly didn’t come without ridicule.
The 51 year-old was confirmed last Thursday making her the first Black woman appointed to the Supreme Court. While many in the chamber erupted in applause after Vice President Kamala Harris announced the official confirmation, several GOP members walked out.
“You couldn’t give one clap, just one?”, said Noah
Noah pointed out the significance of Jackson’s confirmation, “from segregation to confirmation”, Noah stated, speaking of Ketanji Brown Jackson’s confirmation speech title which was an ode to Maya Angelou. Her speech was most significant because it exemplified the strides African Americans have made and adversity they faced, seemingly what Jackson endured over the last few weeks. And through it all, she persevered.
Ketanji Brown Jackson will be officially appointed as Associate Supreme Court Justice once Justice Stephen Breyer retires.
See what else Trevor Noah had to say about the confirmation on The Daily Show.
The Daily Show with Trevor Noah airs weeknights at 11pm ET/PT on Comedy Central
