Kirk Medas was hospitalized before passing
Medas’ father confirmed to TMZ he passed away Friday, May 2, from liver failure, reports TMZ.
According to the report, Medas was put on a ventilator in a Miami-area hospital and had been fighting for his life.
His family previously announced on Instagram he was fighting necrotizing pancreatitis and sepsis, needed a machine to breathe, and was in a coma.
Fans of reality television will recognize Medas from the “Jersey Shore” spin-off on which he starred for three seasons alongside Jeremiah Buoni, Codi Butts, Aimee Hall, Nilsa Prowant, Candace Rice, Gus Smyrnios and Kortni Gilson.
Medas was on the MTV show for 25 episodes from 2017 until 2020.
GoFundMe
Before his passing, his former costar and pal, Nilsa Prowant also shared pleas for prayers and support with fans. Prowant shared a link to a GoFundMe Medas’ family established, which has raised over $27,000 so far. The title of the fundraiser was recently changed to “Support Kirk Medas: Funeral Arrangement&Medical.”
“The donation will help for medical bills and rehab. He has no medical insurance so your donations will be greatly appreciated,” the GoFundMe description read. “Please continue to uplift Kirk in your prayers . Thank you again from the Medas Family.”
“Necrotizing pancreatitis happens when pancreatitis inflammation is so severe that it causes tissue death (necrosis),” according to the Cleveland Clinic. “This can cause both short-term and long-term complications.”
