A propane explosion tore through a North Carolina food truck on October 2, seriously injuring two men.

GoFundMe campaigns have been created to help Eric Zeigler and Ryan Mallone as they begin long recoveries.

Owner and worker injured during North Carolina food truck explosion

The blast occurred while the team was preparing for the Shakori Hills GrassRoots Festival. According to authorities, a propane leak inside Stuffyman’s Vegan Stuff triggered the explosion, injuring Zeigler, the truck’s owner, and Mallone, who was working alongside him.

After escaping the blast, bystanders rushed to help. They gave Zeigler water and called for emergency responders.

“I just thank God for being alive,” Zeigler told ABC11. “It could’ve been a very different conversation.”

Zeigler suffered burns on 30% of his body. Mallone sustained serious injuries in the blast and continues to recover in stable condition.

Emergency crews airlifted both men to a local burn center in Chapel Hill.

GoFundMe campaigns created to support recovery

Both men face months of rehabilitation. Two separate GoFundMe campaigns now support Zeigler and Mallone as they recover from their injuries. The fundraisers will help cover medical bills, wound-care supplies, physical therapy, burn treatments and living expenses.

Mallone, known for his steady presence and kind spirit, had joined Zeigler to earn extra income. Now, his family is asking the public to rally behind him.

“Fight the good fight,” Zeigler said. “If you’re fighting, you’re going in the right direction.”
