The annual celebration will run April 26 through May 2, 2026, marking its 74th year as one of the Caribbean’s most vibrant cultural traditions.
About St Thomas Carnival 2026: Week Honoring Culture and Community
St. Thomas Carnival will again unite residents, visitors, and the Virgin Islands diaspora for a week of music, food, artistry, and cultural pride. The festival highlights the territory’s heritage and continues to serve as a major draw for regional and international travelers.
Traditional events will return, including:
- Queen and Princess Pageants
- Calypso Monarch competition
- One of the Caribbean’s most energetic J’ouvert celebrations
The week concludes with the Carnival parade through Charlotte Amalie. Thousands of masqueraders typically dance along the two‑mile route in bold costumes to soca and Virgin Islands band music.
Tourism Officials Highlight Cultural Significance
“Carnival is more than a festival, it’s a powerful expression of who we are as a people,” said Jennifer Matarangas‑King, U.S. Virgin Islands Commissioner of Tourism. She noted that the celebration brings together the local community, returning Virgin Islanders, and global visitors to honor creativity and culture. She added that the territory looks forward to welcoming attendees in 2026.

Music, Food, and Local Craftsmanship
Nightly free musical performances will showcase local, regional, and international artists. Carnival goers can also attend the St. Thomas Carnival Boat Races and the annual Food Fair, which features traditional Virgin Islands cuisine and handmade crafts from local vendors.
Events for All Ages
The schedule includes children’s and adult parades, themed music nights, pageants, and the sunrise J’ouvert celebration. Tourism officials emphasize that the festival offers experiences for all ages and interests, encouraging visitors to immerse themselves in the territory’s culture and community spirit.
