About Intimate Apparel
Intimate Apparel, is a stage play that tells the story of an African American seamstress who migrated to New York in the early 1900s during the “Great Migration”.
Written by Pulitzer Prize winner, Lynn Nottage, and directed by Seret Scott, if you’re looking for an entertaining, and educational production, Intimate Apparel is it.
They are hailing this play as a “black triple threat” as Black women are at the “helm of this vivid tale of romance and independence”.
Pulitzer Prize winning playwright, Lynn Nottage, Director, Seret Scott and as, Esther, Stacey Sargeant, tell this tale set among the bustle of New York in 1905 at the upstart of the “Great Migration,” when 2 million Southern Blacks flocked to cities like New York. Esther is a talented African American seamstress, who designs undergarments for women from the brothels to the Upper East Side. The fabric of the lives of the memorable cast of characters reveal what lies just under outer appearances.
This play is definitely a must see as we rarely get to see African American productions come around in this area. The production will be September 21st through October 10, 2010 at the Two River Theater Company located in Red Bank, NJ.
