Million Hoodie March for Trayvon Martin to be held at Union Square, NYC
A march will be held in Union Square, NYC this evening in support of Trayvon Martin, a teen who was murdered in Florida.
A Million Hoodie march will be held in NYC this evening in support of Trayvon Martin, a teen who was murdered as he was walking home from a convenience store.
Thousands are showing their support by wearing hoodies in honor of the slain teen, and more protestors will gather at Union Square at 6pm to protest the shooting of Trayvon Martin last month. On the NBC Morning show, Martin’s parents confirmed they will be in attendance at the march.
Trayvon Martin was shot and killed by George Zimmerman, after Zimmerman thought Martin looked suspicious as he walked to his father’s home on February 26th. Zimmerman, who says he is a “neighborhood watch captain”, disobeyed police orders not to follow Martin, and ended up in a scuffle before shooting him. Zimmerman, who can be heard calling Martin a coon on his 911 call, described Martin as wearing a hoodie and carrying something in his hands. That something turned out to be a bag of skittles.
While the White House announced United States The Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Florida, and the FBI opened an investigation into the facts and circumstances surrounding the shooting death of Trayvon Martin, Zimmerman has not been arrested or charged.
Zimmerman has maintained his innocence stating the shooting was in self-defense.
If you cannot make the Million Hoodie march, the website and flyers ask everyone to “WEAR YOUR HOODIE ON WEDNESDAY 3/21 and upload a pic to Twitter, Facebook or Instagram with the hashtag #millionhoodies”
The Martin family are also encouraging people to sign an online petition in attempts to get a million signatures that is “calling on Norman Wolfinger, Florida’s 18th District State’s Attorney, to investigate my son’s murder and prosecute George Zimmerman for the shooting and killing of Trayvon Martin”

I hope the TV stations broadcast this march. I cannot even look at this boy and not cry. How sad for this boy, he must have been so scared for his life, and then he lost his life. RIP Trayvon, you are with the angels right now looking down. JoAnn/Boston
