George Zimmerman’s attorney says he may want to apologize to Trayvon’s family
The attorney for George Zimmerman, the man charged with fatally shooting unarmed teenager Trayvon Martin, has said his client might apologize. Attorney Mark O’mara said the teenager’s death is weighing heavy on him.
George Zimmerman’s attorney, who represents the man charged with fatally shooting unarmed teenager Trayvon Martin, said his client might apologize. According to attorney Mark O’Mara, the teenager’s death continues to weigh heavily on Zimmerman.
“Understand that George realizes he was involved in the death of another young man,” O’Mara told ABC News. He added that Zimmerman does not take the outcome lightly. In fact, O’Mara said the weight of the shooting affects Zimmerman more than isolation, more than the past six weeks, and more than the uncertainty ahead.
After his arrest, Zimmerman spent his first night in jail under protective custody so officers could watch him at all times. Law enforcement sources told ABC News the 28‑year‑old “wept quite a bit” during the night.
When asked about a possible apology, O’Mara said he wanted any conversation to happen directly with the Martin family rather than through the media.
Zimmerman made his first court appearance on Thursday. During the hearing, he wore a gray jail suit and answered “Yes sir” to basic questions about the charge.
Judge Mark E. Herr said he found probable cause to move forward with the case. As a result, the court scheduled an arraignment for May 29 before another judge.
