Poet’s corner : “Free” by Harold Huff
Freedom.
At what cost should we pay?

FREE?!?!
Freedom.
At what cost should we pay?
Free from judged and judging hands
Something we endure everyday
Freedom from those choices
We so nonchalantly make
Most not willing to give
But ready to take with haste
Freedom paid for
by slain brothers and sisters
instead of fighting for them
we wear t-shirts saying we miss them
we finally have freedom
thanks to Martin and Malcolm
they shot Trayvon in the street
and knew nothing about him
just cause he was black
left his house hungry
on a walk for a snack
that’s when he was judged
and had to fight back
and they give his killer freedom
what kind of bull ish is that
they say we live in the land of the free
most of my ancestors trying to make it
were hung from a tree
hosed down and beat
and when I try to make it
they still look down their noses at me
all I ever wanted was to
be the best me I can be
but they throw around that word
no knowing the meaning of free…
