Mylezia Is Young, In Charge, & On Her Way To The Top
Mylezia King

Mylezia King is only 19 years old but she’s already making a noise in a field she is destined for. She has already opened for top-notch acts like K. Michelle, worked with Grammy award winning producers, and at her tender age, runs a production company. And not to mention her voice is impressive.

Who is Mylezia?

Born in Wilmington, Delaware, the 19-year-old was recently nominated at the 2014 Philly Hip-Hop Awards for Best New R&B/Pop Artist. King who is often referred to as “Mylee” or “My Way” sang all of her life with her first solo performance coming in church when she sang “I Love You Lord” in which she later admitted ‘she was terrified’.

She has currently released five singles including the song “Girl’s Night Out” that she co-wrote with producer Chuck Finney which can be heard and purchased on Itunes. While she has pinned another singles entitled “Love Don’t Live Here Anymore”, “Bittersweet”, and “Lonely Girl” in the past. King, who studied piano and violin in school, is currently working on her demo project. And she has songs already completed called “Never Alone’, “Anxious”, “Dying to Be Perfect”, and “Forever Love” that’s expected to be released sometime soon.

In addition, the 2014 Concord High School graduate shared the same bill as VH1 star and singer K. Michelle, Mack Wilds, and Lee Mazin. Mylezia has worked with some of the industry’s best producers such as Grammy award-winning Ray Hamilton, who produced Joe, R. Kelly, and Michael Jackson; and The Dezperawdos, who produced the architect of the “New Jack Swing” era of the late 1980s Teddy Riley (former member of Guy, Blackstreet)  and Dru Hill. Also, Ben Ford, Rick Williams, PC Beats, Jaelin Savage, Keith Johnson, and the above-mentioned Chuck Finney were other producers that King has shared the studio with.

Lastly, the Delaware native who graduated high school with honors and subsequently launched her own production company called Myleez Productions, Ms. King is the CEO who’s company emphasis is to sign singers and songwriters.

Mylezia is definitely an artist I believe you’ll hear in the future. She has her hands in a lot of things and already making strides.

Get to know Myelzia King below and spin some records.

UV: When did you fall in love with music?
Mylezia: I have loved music since I was a little girl. Music was a part of my life growing up. My mother and father were performers.

UV: How long have you been creating and performing music?
Mylezia: It will be three years on August 29, 2015.

UV: How would you describe your music and sound?
Mylezia: I love real musicians and heavy background vocal sin my music, Putting my sound in a box is difficult because I love rnb, pop and rock. I have written more RnB Music because of the producers I have been blessed to work with thus far. However the first song I ever wrote was POP. When I hear instruments I get an immediate reaction.

UV: What artists have the greatest musical influences on you and your music?
Mylezia: Alicia Keys and Missy Elliott. Every day I use to look myself in the mirror and say I was going to be the next Alicia Keys. I love her. I admire Missy because of her versatility. She is an amazing entertainer but her Producer’s ear is on point. I love Aaliyah because of her originality and how secure she was being herself.

UV: What do you think your greatest challenge has been as an indie artist?
Mylezia: Building a solid team. For many years it was me and my mother. My cousin Will Simmons came on board and then we were blessed to begin building with others. It takes sacrifice and 1000% dedication. Many think they are built for this until you have to sacrifice time and money. People want to see a return today. This industry doesn’t work like that. Anybody can join a team with an artist that has a movement, buzz and a machine behind them. It takes a special team of people to build from ground up and never complain. I have that now but I had to weed out the real from the fake. Jackie King, Will Simmons, Court Digga, Jorge Perez, Jontae Willingham, Jodi Lewis, The Dezperawdos, Keith Johnson, Charles Finney, Farees, Chad Roper, Sonny, SK and Miranda Lane have made sacrifices and have never expected anything in return. I have an amazing foundation now.

UV: How in tune are you with your fans?
Mylezia: I know where my fans are from and I stay connected to them every day. Many DM me and give me feedback, some email me. I always respond. I am new and I don’t have millions but I remember thr first person that every followed me on twitter and told me he loved my music. His name is Tyler. I also love to pop up at their high schools and surprise them.

UV: Has anyone ever given you negative feedback on your music, if so how did you react to it?
Mylezia: Yes, my fans will tell me if they feel that my music is headed down the wrong direction. I have gone back into the studio and made changes. I have also received feedback from a few label executives that said they didn’t feel a certain song was good for my Brand. I listen to all feedback. One thing I know about music is “It always changes”. Somethings you record are for now, somethings are for later and something may be for me to place with someone else.

UV: Tell us about your company Myleez Production’s?
Mylezia: I have teamed up with local writers and producers to give them a chance to make some major placements with established artists. I formed this production team because I am around so many amazing artists that have never been where I have been. I can’t take everyone with me but I can get their music in the hands of people that can change their life. Delaware is an untapped marker and our buzz is growing.

UV: How important and how difficult is it to support your career with your own funding?
Mylezia: Vital. I don’t have label support. My investor is my mom. She puts 95% of her earning back into my career. She has sacrificed everything to push me to the next level financially.

UV: To date, what has been your best performance?
Mylezia: I opened up for KMichelle in 2014 and that was the first time I every performed outside of the Church. When was it, where was it and why is it your best performance? I was in NYC. NY was amazing and has become a second home. Some people start out in small clubs but I was blessed to work with one of the top Promoters in NY Mook Diamonds and he gave me a chance of a Lifetime.

UV: Where do you see yourself in the next five years?
Mylezia: Touring the world with mu sic, getting into Film(I receive so many scripts now…it’s crazy), Getting major endorsements and starting my own foundation to help kids being raised in single parent households.

UV: Do you have any upcoming shows?
Mylezia: Yes. I am performing at A3C in Atlanta and some shows NY, CT and LA.

UV: What` current projects do you have out or forthcoming projects in progress? I am releasing my 1st EP Mylezia: King Like A Queen in September.

UV: In closing, I would like you to leave the Unheard Voices readers words of encouragement and inspiration, especially for those pursuing a career in music and entertainment.
Mylezia: Don’t ever give up. This industry is not for the weak. It will challenge your endurance and tenacity on a daily basis. You must know your purpose in life and stick to it. Never be afraid to let people go. Not everyone can walk with you on this journey. Make great business decisions and be involved in everything. Trust your instincts regarding people. Learn how to associate with crocked people. They are everywhere and you can not escape them. People will name drop every day. Don’t be impressed by it. They will Lie to you and look you in your face but you must trust God and know that the doors God opens for you no man can close. Finally always be a fan of music. It will keep you humble. The moment you think you have arrived is the moment you risk to lose everything you have worked hard for. Much success to you!! Never give up!!!

  • As an up & coming singer hailing from Cleveland, Ohio’s Morris Black housing projects, TruSoul Davis discovered his affinity for music at a young age, singing in local choirs in his youth.

TruSoul Davis discovers his voice

In his later years, he began to take music more seriously, honing in on his gifts and finding his voice. TruSoul Davis went on to release multiple singles leading up to his first major release “The Tru Experience” to widespread local & international (UK) acclaim.

After a short promotional tour that included various radio station visits & shows such as “The FreeThinkers Tour”, “Indie Acoustic Soul Live” & “Song Wars 5” to name a few, TruSoul looks to make an impact in the R&B scene by “Bringing real R&B back”, as he says.

Unheard Voices had a chance to ask TruSoul Davis some questions on his journey.

Get to know the soul singer below and see why he’s Unheard Voices featured artist of the month.

Unheard Voices: When did you fall in love with music?
TruSoul Davis: At a very young age, probably about 5 years old. I can remember back when my mother used to bring home records from her job at the local record shop and let me just “dive” deep into her collection from artists like Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, Al Green, etc.

Unheard Voices: How would you describe your style of music?
TruSoul Davis: Simply a touch of 90’s RnB with today’s twist.

Unheard Voices: What is the meaning behind your name?
TruSoul Davis: My name came from me and a friend of mine listening to music. I started to sing the song we were listening to with a lil bit more sauce then my friend was like ” man you sang that with some true soul ” so I just dropped the “e” and put it together.

Unheard Voices: What does your work aim to say?
Trusoul Davis: With my music, I sing songs to the hearts of women and the minds of men showing the up’s and downs of love and life, good and bad, and just trying to keep ” love” in music because we need it.

Missin Peace holds police accountable with national misconduct database

Missin Peace is the only national police misconduct database that collects formal civilian complaints against law enforcement.

Missin Peace is on a mission to connect the dots when it comes to police misconduct.

For decades, many Americans have suffered various forms of brutality and injustice at the hands of “bad” law enforcement officers.

With the upsurge of cell phone cameras, citizens are finally able to document their interaction with police. The unfortunate murders of
Daunte Wright, Breonna Taylor, George Floyd, and many others have galvanized the masses to demand justice.

Police officers are intended to be public servants, but what happens when the officer is accused of misconduct?

Sometimes, a civilian puts in a complaint in a step towards holding the officer accountable. But only a small percent of complaints result in the officer being disciplined —partly because the accusations are hidden.

Records of misconduct are filed away and rarely seen outside of their department.

Investigators can’t take action against corrupt officers if they are missing the pieces of the puzzle regarding stories of misconduct.

That’s where Missin Peace comes in.

How Missin Peace works

Missin Peace is a national police misconduct database that collects formal civilian complaints against law enforcement.

Missin Peace organization

Released in 2017, the registry offers two type of accounts.

One, it enables civilians to put the formal complaints they filed against the officer on record. Civilians are able to submit the official civilian complaint along with pictures, videos, and other accompanying documentation.

Two, the database also serves as a portal for investigative journalists, hiring managers, and civil rights attorneys to conduct research. For this type of account, users must contact Missin Peace to be granted access.

Currently, Missin Peace is the only national police misconduct database that allows citizens to follow and find any police officer’s history of complaints. The organization’s goal is to increase awareness on the database to be used as a tool for police accountability.

Check out Unheard Voices interview with Missin Peace founders:

For civilians who file their complaints on the database, personal information is stripped from the complaint, assuring complete anonymity.

The intent is to put on record police misconduct without fear of retaliation.

Traditionally, corrupt law enforcement officers have been allowed to transfer from one department to another and avoid the repercussions of their actions. To circumvent the recycling of corrupt cops, the American public and politicians finally understand the need for a centralized database of citizen complaints.

Missin Peace is here to fill in that void.

How to submit your complaint(s) in the database

If you have filed a complaint against a law enforcement officer, Missin Peace encourages you to put your complaint in the database to fill in the missing pieces. It doesn’t matter how old the complaint is, as long as it’s official.

To visit Missin Peace, check out their website and spread the word with your loved ones.
