Marilyn Mosby not pardoned by Joe Biden despite efforts
On Thursday, Dec. 12, President Biden commuted the sentences of 1,500 others and pardoned 39 people, in the largest act of clemency in a single day, but Mosby wasn’t one of them.
Former Baltimore City State’s Attorney Marilyn Mosby will not receive a presidential pardon despite her campaigning efforts, according to reports.
On Thursday, Dec. 12, President Biden commuted the sentences of 1,500 others and pardoned 39 people. It is the largest act of clemency in a single day.
In May, Mosby, 44, began serving a sentence of three years of supervised release and one year of house arrest. A jury convicted her of perjury and mortgage fraud. Additionally, the court ordered her to complete 100 hours of community service.
Marilyn Mosby pardon efforts
Following her conviction, the public, activists, and Mosby’s family has pleaded with President Joe Biden to pardon her. However, that didn’t happen.
Biden pardoned his son, Hunter Biden, who was prosecuted for gun and tax related crimes. This revelation called for many people requesting to pardon Mosby.
In November 2023, a jury found Mosby guilty of two counts of perjury for allegedly lying about business losses to make penalty-free withdrawals from her retirement account. She allegedly used the money to buy vacation homes in Florida.
Organizations involved
The NAACP and more than a dozen other organizations sent a letter to President Joe Biden last May, urging him to pardon Mosby.
In the five‑page letter, the human rights organization laid out why it believes federal prosecutors unfairly targeted Mosby and wrongfully convicted her of perjury and mortgage fraud.
The organizations argue that the federal government targeted her as payback for her progressive policies and for prosecuting officers after Freddie Gray’s death nearly a decade ago.
