Vernon Jackson is looking to give free haircuts for special needs children through his initiative, The Gifted Event.
The Gifted Event’s mission
Jackson’s mission with The Gifted Event is to create a welcoming environment where children can comfortably experience haircuts at their own pace.
Jackson’s aim is to transform what can often be a daunting experience into a joyful one, leaving both children and families feeling uplifted and empowered.
A GoFundMe has been created to help with the mission.
“Through our program, we’re not just providing haircuts; we’re sharing beautiful moments of transformation with the community. By showcasing these experiences, we raise awareness of the challenges families face daily, fostering compassion and patience in the hearts of those around us,” the fundraiser reads.
About Vernon Jackson
For the past 20 years, Jackson has been a licensed barber/cosmetologist in his hometown of Cincinnati, Ohio.
In 2019, Jackson took a leap of faith toward entrepreneurship in the personal care industry and became owner of Noble Barber & Beauty.
During his role of both owner and
barber, he’s been given the opportunity to build strong relationships with those who enter the barbershop.
Jackson says his shop provides a
supportive environment where clients feel comfortable in sharing stories of struggle andtriumph, good days and bad.
One relationship started The Gifted Event
One relationship that has really been humbling for Jackson is a young man whose mother drives over an hour to receive a haircut for her son.
Due to the additional time required and
accommodations needed, this mother could not find a barber in her hometown who was willing to provide a haircut for her son with special needs
As a barber, Jackson saw the need for a place where children with disabilities are supported during a haircut and an environment where parents or caregivers don’t have to explain their child’s behavior or apologize for something they may do or say.
“I provide the haircut, but the child receives dedicated time focused on them, a goody bag of items to take home, and parents are able to rest in knowing
the needs for their child’s haircut are being met. This is my vision for “The Gifted Event,” Jackson says.
Barber services for children with special needs
Jackson has designated the 3rd Monday of each month as a day of barber services for children with intellectual, physical, or developmental
disabilities.
He wants to the eliminate the financial burden for parents and caregivers of children with a disability.
