Veteran Performers Take the Stage
Comedian Arnez J
Arnez J. brings more than four decades of stand-up experience. He has performed for sold-out crowds nationwide and earned recognition through Def Comedy Jam, All Star Comedy Jam, and appearances on Comedy Central and BET. He will share the stage with Tommy Davidson, best known for his breakout role on In Living Color. Davidson recently launched Vacation Creation on the CW Network, a series that helps families explore their cultural heritage.
Comedian Michael Blackson
Michael Blackson, widely known as “The African King of Comedy,” also joins the bill. He rose to fame through roles in Next Friday and appearances on BET’s ComicView, Showtime at the Apollo, and HBO’s Bad Boys of Comedy. Gary Owen, another fan favorite, brings a résumé that spans stand-up, film, and television. He has worked with Ice Cube, Kevin Hart, Tyler Perry, the Wayans Brothers, and Eddie Murphy.
Comedian Don DC Curry
Don “D.C.” Curry adds his signature style to the event. Many fans know him as Uncle Elroy Jones from Next Friday and Friday After Next. He also starred in the sitcom Grace Under Fire. Sommore, who hosts the show, has appeared on BET’s Live From L.A., The Hughleys, and Comedy Central’s Roast of Flavor Flav. She also toured nationally with Mo’Nique, Laura Hayes, and Adele Givens as part of The Queens of Comedy.
A Long-Running WBLS Tradition
“The April Fools’ Day Comedy Show has been a staple event for Emmis New York for over 10 years,” said Charlie Morgan, VP and general manager of Emmis New York. He noted that the lineup reflects the WBLS audience and that the station’s takeover of hosting duties from HOT 97 felt natural. He added that both comedy and the stations’ audiences span generations and continue to draw diverse crowds.
