Just recently Mr. Wronko’s students at Asbury Park High School conducted multiple presentations for the students at the Solid Rock Foundation School in Ghana. Their presentations were based on the American Revolution.
These American Revolution presentations dealt with many topics. One topic in particular dealt with African Americans participation. Patriots such as Crispus Attucks and Peter Salem were discussed. However, Great Britain also had African Americans who served for them. About 20,000 African Americans fought on the side for Great Britain. One strong loyalist they spoke about was Colonel Tye, Loyalist Guerilla. Students mentioned the reason for that was because at the time America had unfortunately the institution of slavery. But students discussed that Great Britain also had taken African Americans and held them as slaves.
Another topic Mr. Wronko’s students presented was Native American involvement during the Revolution. They spoke about how more Native Americans fought for Great Britain then they did for the Patriots. The students also mentioned that many tribes tried to remain neutral and not get involved in the war.
In addition to African and Native Americans, the students spoke about women in the American Revolution. They spoke about Abigail Adams, Mercy Otis Warren, and Nancy Hart. Furthermore, they spoke about how women helped the wounded on the military camps as well as setting up charities to help the cause of freedom.
Finally, the students presented the many battles of the American Revolution. One battle the students discussed was the importance of Washington’s victory at Trenton. They explained that if Washington did not achieve this victory, then the United States would have been a lost cause. The students also discussed that American victories were tough to come by for the Patriots but because of the Patriots strong will, they managed to defeat the British.
The drawing was for the colonies to join together or be destroyed by Great Britain done by Jennifer Aguirre Ortiz. Presentation picture was of Cayne Castillo Lopez.
