Kindergartner struck and killed by landscaping truck outside Georgia apartment complex, says family
The tragic incident happened at the Whispering Pines Apartment complex on Hogansville Road in LaGrange, only a few feet from the family’s front door.
LaGRANGE, Ga. — A Georgia family is mourning the loss of 6‑year‑old Macree Snelling after a landscaping truck struck and killed him Jan. 15. The tragic incident happened at the Whispering Pines Apartment complex on Hogansville Road in LaGrange, only a few feet from the family’s front door.
Crash Happened Steps From the Family’s Home
Macree was riding his scooter outside the apartment when the truck hit him, according to relatives. His 9‑year‑old brother witnessed the impact and ran inside to alert their mother, Latouris Bell.
Bell told WCAX she was getting ready for work when her older son rushed in to tell her what happened. She described the moment as surreal and overwhelming.
“I feel like it’s an out‑of‑body experience. This is a nightmare,” Bell said.
Macree’s grandmother, Victoria Favors, also told WCAX she wants to understand how the driver did not see the children playing nearby.
“How could you not see two kids out playing? I’m not angry at him. I just feel that it could’ve been avoided,” Favors said.
Local authorities have not released the driver’s name. The investigation remains active.
School and Community Remember Macree Snelling, a Joyful Child
Macree was a kindergartner at Callaway Elementary School. Troup County Schools counseling services are available for students and staff.
Favors described her grandson as a lively, joyful child who brought energy into every room.
“He was that energetic kid who was always on the go,” she said. “He would brighten up the room when he walked in.”
Family members said Macree loved Spider‑Man, and they plan to honor him with a Spider‑Man‑themed funeral.
GoFundMe Launched to Support Funeral Costs for Macree Snelling
A GoFundMe created by Bell says she is “devastated, heartbroken, and numb.” She thanked the community for its support as the family prepares for funeral arrangements.
According to the fundraiser:
- Donations will help cover funeral expenses.
- The family appreciates the community’s prayers and support.
Bell said she hopes no other parent experiences such a tragedy.
“I don’t wish this on anybody,” she said.
