Four dead in Jersey Shore New Year’s Eve shooting
A 16-year-old boy has been charged with murder in the shooting death of his father, mother, sister, and a family friend on New Year’s Eve,
Long Branch, NJ – A 16-year-old boy has been charged with murder in the shooting death of his father, mother, sister, and a family friend on New Year’s Eve, according to Monmouth County Prosecutor Christopher J. Gramicccioni.
New Year’s Eve Shooting victims
About 15 minutes before 2018 rang in, the teen’s father 44-year-old Steven Kologi; his 42-year-old mother Linda Kologi; his 18-year-old sister Brittany Kologi; and 70-year-old family acquaintance Mary Shultz of Ocean Township, were found dead of gunshot wounds when officers arrived at the Kologi’s home.
Tragedy in Long Branch
According to Monmouth County Prosecutor Christopher J. Gramiccioni, the Long Branch Police were dispatched to 635 Wall Street on reports of shots fired at 11:43 p.m. on December 31, 2017.
Responding officers discovered that four people were killed and two had escaped the shootings.
The grandfather of the alleged killer was able to flee the house with his other grandson; who police have not identified.
The prosecutor’s office said it appears the teen, who has not been identified, used a semi-automatic rifle to kill his victims. According to NJ.com, the rifle was legally registered to a resident of the home.
New Year’s Eve Shooting Domestic Incident
Monmouth County Prosecutor Christopher J. Gramiccioni said in a news conference on Monday that the quadruple homicide is being treated as an isolated domestic incident, and that there is no threat to the public. The teen was taken into custody without incident.
There was no immediate word on a motive for the killings.
Prosecutor Chris Gramiccioni said Monday the teenager will be charged as an adult and is expected to face four counts of murder and other charges.
