New video shows Georgia twins hours before they were found dead on mountain
New surveillance video of 19-year-old Georgia twins before were they found dead on Bell Mountain raises more questions.
The family of 19‑year‑old twins who were found dead on a Georgia Mountain on March 8 now has new questions for authorities after reviewing new surveillance video recorded hours before the brothers were discovered.
New video footage of Georgia twins discovered on Bell Mountain
The aunts of Qaadir and Naazir Lewis told 11 Alive that new footage shows the teens entering a Shell gas station in Lawrenceville, Ga., about 12 hours before someone found them shot to death.
Family learns new details about the twins’ final hours
Additionally, the family said they learned the twins took an Uber to the airport that morning after scheduling a trip to Boston. However, they changed their plans when the car failed to reach the airport in time for their flight.
Questions grow about how the twins reached Bell Mountain
Now, the family wants to know how the young men drove their unreliable car to Bell Mountain. Furthermore, entered the gated facility, which closes at 9 p.m. At that time, the brothers were still close to home.
“This gas station here, around 10:30 p.m., the twins are seen drinking water, eating snacks. And dressed how they would normally dress,” their aunt, Samira Brawner, told 11 Alive.
“They pretty much walked inside the gas station and walked out, and you know that’s all—that’s all she saw,” Samira added.
Preliminary investigation
A hiker found Naazir and Qaadir Lewis, of Lawrenceville, Georgia, shot to death on the morning of March 8 at the summit of Bell Mountain near the North Carolina border.
Authorities outline early findings
Deputies with the Towns County Sheriff’s Office arrived first. Then they alerted the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, which conducted a preliminary review and labeled the case a murder‑suicide, 11 Alive reported.
GBI awaits additional forensic results
However, the GBI has completed the autopsies and is still awaiting additional forensic results and further investigative work before issuing a final ruling.
Family disputes Georgia twins’ death by suicide
The twins’ family strongly disputes the murder‑suicide finding.
“My nephews wouldn’t do this! They came from a family of love, and twins wanted so much for their future. They had dreams of starting their very own clothing line,” a GoFundMe raising money for their funerals reads.
Relatives say the brothers had no link to Bell Mountain
Yasmine Brawner, another aunt, said the brothers had no connection to Bell Mountain. She shared her concerns in a series of Facebook posts.
“We are not going to sweep this case up under the rug. We want to know the truth of what happened to Qaadir and Naazir so our family can have closure. It is so many unanswered questions that keeps us up at night,” Yasmine wrote.
Family launches #JusticeForQaadirAndNaazir
She and other relatives have now created the hashtag #JusticeForQaadirAndNaazir to raise awareness.
“Unfortunately something happened at Bell Mountain that ended the lives of 19‑year‑old Qaadir and Naazir, which needs to be further investigated,” Yasmine said.
