BLK launches “Break the Bank 3.0” to help Black singles offset rising dating costs
BLK dating app’s Break the Bank 3.0 offers financial support as gas prices and daily expenses continue to strain Black singles.
BLK, the largest dating app for Black singles, launched a new initiative Thursday aimed at easing the rising cost of dating.
The campaign, called Break the Bank 3.0: #FuelingBLKLove, offers financial support as gas prices and daily expenses continue to strain Black singles.
About Break the Bank 3.0 : Black singles dating costs
New BLK survey data shows 77.6% of Black singles feel financial anxiety around dating, while 87.9% say they would date more if money were not a barrier. The app found that a typical date night, including prep and transportation, now costs between $100 and $150.
BLK to Give Away $500 Gas Cards
As part of the initiative, BLK will award $500 gas gift cards to 10 users, totaling $5,000 in fuel support. The goal is to help singles get to their dates without worrying about the cost of filling up.
Users can enter by downloading BLK and tagging three friends on the campaign post across the app’s social channels.
“Dating should not have to compete with the price of a full tank,” said Amber Cooper, Head of Brand at BLK. She said the initiative reflects the financial realities many Black singles face.
Survey Shows Gas Prices Are Affecting Dating
BLK’s new data highlights how fuel costs are shaping dating habits:
- 77.6% feel financial stress around dating.
- 87.9% would date more if money were not an issue.
- Most respondents said a date night costs $100–$150 before the date even begins.
- Nearly two in three said they would “100%” date more if costs dropped.
- Only 12.1% said they date as often as they want.
The findings show a clear trend: the desire to date is strong, but the cost of getting there is not.
Streamer Zoe Spencer Joins the Campaign
BLK partnered with streamer Zoe Spencer to bring the initiative to life. Her content will spotlight the frustration of preparing for a date, reaching the gas pump, and watching the total climb past $80.
Spencer will feature the campaign through livestreams and social content.
Break the Bank Series Addresses Financial Barriers
Break the Bank 3.0 continues BLK’s annual effort to address financial challenges facing Black singles.
- In 2022, the app tackled inflation and funded dates at Black‑owned businesses.
- In 2023, the app addressed the Black Tax, highlighting how many young Black singles support family members.
This year’s focus shifts to transportation costs, which BLK says are becoming a major barrier to in‑person dating.
BLK Says the Goal Is Connection
“BLK has always been about more than the match,” Cooper said. “It’s about making the meet‑up possible.”
To participate in #FuelingBLKLove, users can download BLK and follow the initiative across the app and its social channels.
