CHICAGO — The Obama Presidential Center has officially opened to the public on June 19, 2026.
Located in Jackson Park, the center honors the nation’s first Black president and was designed to inspire civic engagement and community pride. The public opening coincided with Juneteenth, a federal holiday marking the end of slavery in the United States.
Obama Presidential Center Features Oval Office Replica and Immersive Exhibits
According to Obama Foundation, the museum includes a life‑sized replica of the Oval Office, high‑tech exhibits, and displays tracing Barack Obama’s campaigns, key moments of his presidency and daily life inside the White House.
Visitors can explore hands‑on installations designed to reflect Obama’s call for people to “make the change they want to see” in their own communities.
Campus Includes Garden, Basketball Court and Community Spaces
The nearly 20‑acre campus features a garden designed by Michelle Obama, planted with lettuce, strawberries and other produce. It also includes a professional‑grade basketball court, picnic areas with grills and a new Chicago Public Library branch.
Officials expect the center to draw as many as one million visitors annually.
Opening Day Draws Families, Local Residents and First Visitors
