Family of Shanquella Robinson Demand “Diplomatic Intervention”
Relatives of Shanquella Robinson accompanied by their attorney Ben Crump, asked Washington, DC officials to intervene in the international investigation into her death.
The family of Shanquella Robinson went to Washington DC to demand answers into her investigation four months after the 25-year-old died while vacationing in Mexico.
Shanquella Robinson investigation
On Friday, relatives of Shanquella Robinson, accompanied by their attorney Ben Crump, asked DC officials to intervene in the investigation into her death during a press conference. They are calling for a “diplomatic intervention”.
On Oct. 28, Robinson, of Charlotte, North Carolina, was reportedly killed after travelling to Puerto Los Cabos in late October with friends, Mexican prosecutors said.
“It’s time for our government to kind of do their part so that the people who are responsible for this crime can be brought to justice,” family attorney Sue-Ann Robinson said earlier this week.
Mexican authorities have issued an arrest warrant but they did not reveal who they are working to arrest. The FBI also has an open investigation.
A video circulating online appeared to show Shanquella being brutally beaten by one of the women in the group at the luxury property where they were staying. Her friends returned to the United States days following Shanquella’s death and no arrests have been made into the investigation.
Diplomatic intervention
“Mexican authorities have confirmed that they have completed their investigations. We’ve had the opportunity to review some of the package and it has been sent [to US officials]”, attorney Sue Ann Robinson, who is also representing the family, said on Friday, reports WUSA9. “The ball is clearly in the United States court. The State Department, the Department of Justice, the ball is in your court.”
The family attorney said that she travelled to Mexico, where she visited the resort where Shanquella died, the local police department and the Attorney General’s Office. She demanded that US officials now take jurisdiction.
